Canada Post issues four T-shirt-shaped stamps for Orange Shirt Day
Philately NewsCanada Post issued four T-shirt-shaped stamps for Orange Shirt Day on 29 September 2026. The issue marks the first British Columbia high-school graduating cohort to have participated in Orange Shirt Day every year since kindergarten.
The Survivors Circle of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation selected orange shirts as the subject. Three designs reflect First Nations, Inuit and Métis experiences; the fourth honours Mother Earth and connections between generations. Blair Thomson of Believe in designed the issue using illustrations by Emily Kewageshig, Jason Sikoak and Christi Belcourt. Lowe-Martin printed the stamps.
The issue includes a booklet of eight Permanent domestic-rate stamps and an Official First Day Cover cancelled in Williams Lake, where Orange Shirt Day began. Its cancellation depicts an eagle, representing strength and spiritual guidance. Orange Shirt Day grew from Phyllis Webstad’s account of her orange shirt being taken away when she entered residential school.
