Alexandre Fortier’s new monograph explains papers used for Canadian stamps
Philately NewsThe Académie québécoise d’études philatéliques has announced Alexandre Fortier’s “Les papiers utilisés pour les timbres-poste du Canada” in its Les Dossiers de l’Académie series, with a launch set for 31 October 2026 during EXUP-53. The French-language monograph runs to 33 pages and is priced at C$20 plus postage.
Its full subtitle identifies three areas of study: classification, manufacture and identification of the papers used for Canadian postage stamps. The publisher’s press release says it explains the distinguishing features of laid, wove, ribbed, coated, India, fluorescent and watermarked papers.
The work combines straightforward observation methods with a practical identification protocol. It encourages readers to compare several characteristics, avoid misleading interpretations and confirm their findings rather than relying on a single visual clue.
Fortier teaches physics at CÉGEP level and belongs to the AQEP, BNAPS, the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and the Union des philatélistes de Montréal. The publisher identifies Montreal postal history and postal markings among his collecting interests.
