Denys Yossell has documented a letter from Matanzas to Frederick Huth & Co. in London, connecting its arrival date with the introduction of British adhesive postage stamps. His study, published on 4 October 2026, illustrates the item from his own collection.

Dated 11 March 1840, the letter bears a red London arrival mark for 28 April and a handwritten receipt annotation for the same day. The author reads another annotation as a possible answer dated 30 April. The correspondence concerns commercial business, including insurance, a vessel to be chartered and a bill payable at sixty days.

Yossell interprets its handwritten routing via Cowes and an eight-penny charge as evidence of carriage by private ship. Those identifications remain qualified. He places the arrival alongside the General Post Office’s public notice dated 28 April explaining the new postage arrangements.

The letter carries no Penny Black. The study establishes a chronological connection rather than administrative involvement in the stamp’s issue, and makes no claim that the item is unique.
