Slovak Post opens Bratislava exhibition pairing postage stamps with original stamp artwork

Slovak Post opened a new philatelic exhibition titled “Personalities on Postage Stamps” in Bratislava on 7 September 2026. The exhibition is being staged at the Gallery of Postage Stamps on SNP Square and brings together a selection of Slovak stamps issued between 1993 and 2025, focusing on notable figures represented through the country’s modern stamp programme. Slovak Post published the exhibition announcement on the opening date.

The display spans political and public figures, writers, poets, composers, scientists, inventors, religious personalities, filmmakers and visual artists. Among those represented are Ľudovít Štúr, Milan Rastislav Štefánik, Alexander Dubček, Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav, Jozef Murgaš, Eugen Suchoň, Aurel Stodola, Maximilián Hell and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The breadth of subjects allows visitors to read the stamp programme as a compact record of cultural and historical memory rather than simply as a sequence of postal issues.

A particularly philatelic element is the inclusion of original artistic stamp designs alongside the finished stamps. Visitors can compare artwork with the final printed issue and examine how composition, lettering and fine detail change as a design moves into production. First Day Covers are also included, while magnifying glasses are provided at individual panels so that visitors can study small design elements that are difficult to see with the naked eye. QR codes provide additional information on subjects, designers and production.

For collectors, the exhibition is useful because it moves beyond a standard display of issued stamps and exposes the relationship between original art, engraving or design work, production choices and finished postal material. That makes it especially relevant to collectors interested in essays, artwork, proofs, FDCs and the creative process behind stamp production, as well as specialists in modern Slovak philately.

Admission is free. Slovak Post lists gallery opening hours as 09:00–17:00 on weekdays and 10:00–17:00 on weekends, with a POFIS sales point at the venue. The article states that the exhibition can be visited until 3 December 2026.
