Japan Post issues limited Toda City 60th-anniversary Frame Stamp sheet
Philately NewsJapan Post placed a limited Frame Stamp sheet celebrating the 60th anniversary of Toda City, Saitama Prefecture, on sale on 5 October 2026. The self-adhesive sheet contains ten ¥110 stamps and is priced at ¥1,800. Only 500 sheets were allocated, with counter sales confined to fourteen named post offices in the Toda and Warabi area and online availability through the Japan Post shop. The issue gives the city's anniversary an official postal product built around municipal history, familiar places, nature and community identity.
Toda became a city on 1 October 1966, and the stamp appeared just four days after the sixtieth anniversary date. The official sheet is headed by the anniversary logo and the Japanese slogan “ずっとだいすき、戸田が好き。”—a declaration of lasting affection for Toda. The design uses the number 60 as a bright civic emblem surrounded by flowers, greenery, water, movement and two smiling faces. That logo provides the visual link between the anniversary campaign and the ten stamp images arranged below it.
The stamps include a mixture of civic and local subjects rather than repeating the logo ten times. Visible designs include the municipal emblem, an archival community photograph, fireworks, a waterside sunset, bridge and river scenery, the anniversary logo, a local character, a kingfisher and flowering plants. Together they describe Toda through institutions, residents, celebrations and the natural environment of the Arakawa area. The complete sheet therefore works as a miniature civic portrait and is more informative intact than as ten separated postage units.
The official image is the actual issued sheet, not a ceremony photograph or an attendee portrait. This is important for collectors because it reveals the entire configuration: the large 60th-anniversary heading, the municipal slogan, both rows of stamps and the relationship between historical, cultural and natural subjects. It also confirms that the product is a Frame Stamp sheet carrying ten valid ¥110 postal impressions rather than a set of ordinary picture postcards or decorative souvenirs.
Japan Post's Kanto branch limited initial counter distribution to fourteen post offices serving the immediate region. That narrow network reinforces the issue's local character and means examples bought at different offices may be of interest to regional postal-history collectors. National access is nevertheless possible through the online shop, where sales began on 5 October and are scheduled through 31 October 2027, subject to stock. The small 500-sheet allocation makes the stock condition more significant than the nominal closing date.
The official catalogue code is 2610000101942, and the online product number is 9961220194. Those identifiers are useful because Japan Post released several unrelated regional Frame Stamp products on the same day. Recording the codes alongside the title prevents confusion with the Nishiarai Daishi anniversary set or other local issues. Unlike that ¥2,000 temple product, the Toda release is a sheet-only item: its ¥1,800 price covers one sheet of ten self-adhesive ¥110 stamps, without a separate A3 presentation mount listed in the contents.
Toda's transformation over sixty years gives the issue more depth than a simple round-number commemoration. Official city material notes that the population was about 55,000 when municipal status began in 1966. Growth accelerated after the Saikyō Line opened in 1985, strengthening connections with Tokyo while the city retained the river, water and green spaces that shape its identity. The sheet's mix of urban memory, bridge imagery, celebrations, birds and flowers reflects that balance between metropolitan development and the Arakawa landscape.
The anniversary programme itself emphasized participation by residents. Toda used a community mosaic for the sixtieth-anniversary visual campaign and organized a commemorative ceremony on 3 October. Local performances and a “Future Mail 2026” activity invited res
