Correos has issued a €2.65 stamp for FILATEM 2026, Spain’s national thematic-philately exhibition, placing A Guarda’s Plaza del Reloj—Praza do Reló in Galician—at the centre of a postal commemoration released on 8 October. The vertically formatted stamp shows the historic civic building and clock tower in a restrained architectural illustration, accompanied by the colourful FILATEM 2026 A Guarda emblem. It is both an exhibition issue and a local-history stamp, connecting a national gathering of thematic collectors with the square that has served as a focal point of municipal life in this coastal Galician town.

The stamp entered circulation on the opening day of FILATEM 2026, which runs in A Guarda from 8 to 12 October. The exhibition brings competitive thematic philately back to the national stage and includes adult and youth participation. The subject is especially appropriate because thematic collecting builds narratives from stamps and postal material rather than arranging issues only by country or chronology. A new stamp released at the exhibition becomes part of the same storytelling tradition that the event exists to promote.

Correos describes the Plaza del Reloj as the geographical and civic centre of A Guarda. Over many centuries the square hosted twice-weekly markets, public assemblies, municipal announcements, military exercises, religious gatherings and popular festivities. Its changing names—Plaza Mayor, Plaza Vieja, Plaza del Reloj and later political names associated with different periods—record how the space adapted as local government and public life changed. The clock eventually gave the square the name that endured in both Spanish and Galician usage.

The tower represented on the stamp has roots in the early-modern history of the town. A previous watchtower associated with the Correa family was demolished during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, and a later tower was built around 1570. The structure was rebuilt in 1730 after deterioration, with inscriptions and heraldic elements recalling the authorities connected with that work. The surviving bell also dates from the eighteenth-century rebuilding. By choosing this building rather than a general view of the coast, the issue makes civic memory—not tourism alone—the principal theme.

The technical specification identifies digital offset printing on coated, gummed and phosphorescent paper. The stamp measures 28.8 by 40.9 millimetres in vertical format and is perforated 13¼ horizontally by 13¾ vertically. It is supplied in sheets of 25, carries a face value of €2.65 and has an announced print quantity of 65,000. These details distinguish the nationally issued stamp from personalised labels, exhibition souvenirs and other non-postal material that may also be produced around FILATEM.

The official artwork is deliberately uncluttered. The pale architectural drawing gives the clock tower and adjoining façade enough space to remain legible at stamp size. The FILATEM emblem adds red, blue and yellow accents, while the inscriptions identify Spain, Correos, A Guarda, the square and the exhibition. The design therefore performs several jobs at once: it supplies valid postage, identifies the exhibition, names the host town in two languages and records the landmark chosen to represent it.

For collectors attending FILATEM, the stamp can be paired with exhibition postal markings, first-day material, programmes and the official catalogue. Any commemorative cancellation used during the event should be collected on complete cover where possible, because the date, place and relationship between adhesive and postmark provide evidence that cannot be retained on a loose stamp. A genuinely posted cover may be more valuable as postal history than an otherwise attractive souvenir with no rate or route context.

The issue also has several thematic routes. It belongs naturally in collections of philatelic exhibitions, clocks and timekeeping, town halls and civic architecture, Galic
