Dhaka University exhibition brings original stamps and postal history to students
Philately NewsA day-long stamp exhibition and letter-writing programme took place at Dhaka University on 12 October 2026. The Directorate of Posts and Bangladesh National Philatelic Association organised it during Postal Service Week, providing writing materials and envelopes so students could post handwritten letters.
Ten collectors supplied ten thematic display boards. Reported exhibits included the Penny Black, Two Penny Blue and Penny Red; pre-adhesive postal material; and original letters and covers addressed to Dhaka University during the British and Pakistan periods.
Another section presented the improvised use of Pakistani stamps overprinted or marked “Bangladesh” after independence in 1971–72. Scouting, wildlife, maximum cards, national cultural figures and music also featured.
Association vice president Aminul Haque Mallik reported strong student participation. He also said the association had proposed cartoon-themed stamps for children to the postal director general. That proposal was described as under consideration, not an approved issue.
