Canada Post and CUPW reach tentative agreements after prolonged labour dispute

Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers reached tentative agreements reported on 2 January. The proposed settlements included wage increases in the first two years followed by inflation-linked adjustments for the remaining contract period.

Labour stability matters to collectors because disruption affects new-issue fulfilment, standing orders, auction consignments and the transit time of valuable covers. It can also create postal-history evidence through delayed markings, service suspensions, alternative handling and public notices.

A tentative agreement is not the same as a ratified contract. Collectors and dealers should follow official updates before changing shipping plans, retain tracking and insurance records, and avoid presenting speculative disruption covers as recognised postal-history categories without supporting documentation.
