Organisers announced on 21 August 2026 that the British Guiana One-Cent Magenta will be displayed in Prague as the central rarity of the Philatelic Biennale 2026. The exhibition is scheduled for 29 August through 6 September in the Art Nouveau halls of the Municipal House in central Prague.

The unique 1856 British Guiana stamp is being brought to the exhibition by Stanley Gibbons. It will be joined by other internationally recognised rarities, including a Mauritius Two Pence Blue and the United States Inverted Jenny. Bringing these objects together gives visitors an opportunity to compare three very different forms of philatelic importance: extreme survival rarity, an early classic colonial issue and a famous twentieth-century printing error.

The Biennale is organised by Prestige Philately Club Prague, an association of Czech and international collectors and specialists. Its dates overlap with the Sberatel collectors’ fair, scheduled in Prague on 4 and 5 September, creating a broader collecting programme during the final days of the exhibition.

The presence of the One-Cent Magenta is especially significant because its ownership history, auction prices and singular status have made it one of the best-known objects in world philately. The Mauritius issue represents the earliest period of adhesive stamps outside Britain, while the Inverted Jenny provides a widely recognised example of an inverted-centre error. Together, the display offers an unusually concentrated introduction to classic rarity and error collecting.

The announcement confirms the headline exhibits, venue and exhibition dates but does not provide detailed security arrangements, daily viewing hours, ticket conditions or a complete exhibit inventory. Visitors should use the Biennale organiser’s current programme for attendance details and any restrictions applying to the display of the major rarities.
