Royal Mail unveils 12-stamp Duran Duran issue spanning album artwork and four landmark tours

Royal Mail and Duran Duran unveiled a new Special Stamps issue on 10 September 2026 celebrating the British band's visual and musical career. The programme consists of eight First Class stamps based on album artwork and a further four First Class stamps in a miniature sheet inspired by tour posters. Pre-orders opened on the announcement date, with the stamps scheduled for general sale and first-day use on 17 September 2026.

The eight-stamp main set draws from albums released across more than four decades: Duran Duran, Rio, Seven and the Ragged Tiger, Notorious, The Wedding Album, Astronaut, Paper Gods and Future Past. Royal Mail says it worked closely with the band on the selection of imagery and the overall presentation. The issue coincides with the 45th anniversary of the group's debut album and its breakthrough single, Planet Earth.

The miniature sheet shifts the emphasis from album sleeves to live performance. Its four stamps reference the Careless Memories Tour, Astronaut Tour, Sing Blue Silver Tour and Invisible Tour. Royal Mail has also introduced an unusual production feature: the miniature sheet carries a printed visual on its reverse, described as a first for a Royal Mail miniature sheet. The main stamps measure 38 mm by 31 mm, were designed by Royal Mail Group Ltd and printed by Cartor Security Printers using lithography, with perforations of 14 by 14 and PVA gum.

For collectors, the release combines music philately with graphic design, record-sleeve art and concert history. It also extends Royal Mail's established sequence of dedicated band issues. Duran Duran becomes the ninth music group to receive such a treatment, following issues for acts including The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Spice Girls, The Who and AC/DC.

Royal Mail lists the eight-stamp set at £14.40, while a presentation pack containing all 12 stamps is priced at £22.50. First Day Covers, a Prestige Stamp Book and other associated products are also listed for 17 September. The official announcement does not display an exact publication time, so freshness can be established only to the 10 September calendar date.
