PTT releases Saber-Toothed Tiger commemorative stamp and first-day cover

Türkiye’s PTT placed a new commemorative stamp devoted to the saber-toothed tiger into circulation on 21 September 2026. The issue carries a face value of 45 Turkish lira and measures 36 × 52 mm. PTT also released a first-day cover priced at 90 lira, with availability through PTT offices and the postal operator’s philatelic sales channel.

The release is accompanied by a dedicated first-day postmark reading “Kılıç Dişli Kaplan 21.09.2026 ANKARA”. PTT made the cancellation available at the PTT Stamp Museum in Ankara on the issue date, giving collectors a directly associated first-day postal-history component in addition to the adhesive stamp and cover.

PTT had previewed the issue on 16 September, but its 21 September publication confirms that the stamp and first-day cover were actually placed on sale and that use of the Ankara first-day cancellation began. The completed release therefore provides a dated record of the issue entering circulation rather than merely repeating the earlier announcement.

The subject adds a prehistoric-mammal theme to Türkiye’s 2026 commemorative programme. The official release specifies the denomination, dimensions, first-day-cover price, sales channels and cancellation location, but does not state the print quantity or identify the stamp designer in the material published with the release.
