India releases two commemorative postage stamps marking 20 years of BRICS cooperation

India released two commemorative postage stamps on 12 September 2026 to mark two decades of BRICS cooperation. The stamps were unveiled in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, giving the issue a direct connection with the group’s current summit programme and India’s 2026 BRICS chairship. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the release on the same date, while DD India reported the unveiling later in the evening.

Both stamps carry the inscription “BRICS: Two Decades of Cooperation, 2006–2026” together with the Hindi rendering. The first design presents BRICS as a platform built around mutual respect, understanding and solidarity. The second incorporates the BRICS identity and reflects the “Humanity First” and people-centred approach highlighted during India’s chairship. The issue also reflects the 2026 chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”

The release places contemporary international diplomacy within India’s long tradition of using commemorative stamps to record major multilateral events, institutions and anniversaries. Because BRICS has expanded from its original membership into a broader political and economic grouping, the issue also documents a changing international organisation rather than a purely national anniversary.
