Cyprus marks its EU Council presidency with Lefkara-inspired stamp

Cyprus issued a commemorative stamp on 7 January for its 2026 Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The design uses the presidency logo, whose geometry is inspired by traditional Lefkara embroidery and arranged as 27 elements representing the EU member states.

The issue was made available as a single stamp, sheets of eight, a miniature sheet and an official first-day cover. Its imagery combines a contemporary political role with a recognised form of Cypriot cultural heritage, giving it relevance to both European integration and textile-art themes.

Collectors should record the specific format rather than treating all presentations as interchangeable. Official first-day cancellation details, sheet margins and control numbers can help distinguish postal products from later commercial repackaging.
