Denmark ends ordinary letter delivery and closes a major postal-history chapter

Denmark’s national postal operator ended its letter-mail service at the close of 2025, making the change a major subject of philatelic reporting in January. The decision separates parcel operations from a centuries-old public letter service and changes how future Danish correspondence will enter the mailstream.

For postal historians, the final months create identifiable last-period usages: commercial mail, meter impressions, labels, rates, service notices and final-day covers. Genuine everyday material may eventually explain the transition more clearly than souvenirs produced specifically for collectors.

Collectors should document dates, service class, origin, destination and operator, and avoid describing every December cover as a final-day item without evidence. Contemporary notices and intact commercial correspondence should be preserved with their envelopes because context will be difficult to reconstruct later.
