Regional Heritage Australia issue features landmark civic buildings

Australia Post issued Regional Heritage Australia on 13 January, using significant nineteenth-century buildings to explore the architectural and civic history of regional towns. The subjects are Bathurst Courthouse in New South Wales, opened in 1880; the Marvel Bar Hotel in Coolgardie, Western Australia, built in 1898 during the gold-mining era; and two neighbouring South Australian landmarks, Gawler Institute and Gawler Town Hall, completed in 1871 and 1878.

The set consists of three AUD 1.70 stamps and was listed for withdrawal on 1 August 2026. By grouping four buildings from three towns, the issue shows how courthouses, hotels, institutes and town halls performed different roles in developing regional communities. It also documents architectural heritage outside the better-known metropolitan centres.

The issue is useful for thematic collections covering architecture, civic institutions, Australian history, gold-mining towns and heritage conservation. Postal-history collectors may also find the chosen towns significant beyond the buildings themselves. Associated packs and covers should be recorded as products of the same issue rather than separate stamp issues.
